I have not been here for a long time. Health problems kept me away from drawing but feeling a little better now brings back the muse.
Pencils and paper are ready to use. Now I have to find the courage to start again and finish some older pieces and start something new. Doing my best to 'warm up' again.

A new year

Life has been rough for me this last year. After heart surgery in january and a few months to recover, my best friend and wife decided to leave me. Now I have to live with a lot of questions in my head like where and what went wrong?
Last night this whole passed year went through my mind, but I could not come to any conclusion or a plan for 2010. There is only one person that can answer my questions and I doubt she is prepared to do so.
With all these sad feelings inside of me, I try to find the courage to overcome this new year. I still can dream of better times but so far I only feel sad and lonely. At this moment it is impossible to pick up my pencils and make a drawing..

Nevertheless, I wish you all the best for 2010. Maybe time heals my pain.

my friends i am happy to know you care about me, i have and do miss you all, we have run into some terrible problems on our end, our home was robbed and our laptops taken along with some other stuff, my hubby was away, i was scared to come home alone so stayed up north till he returned. I am borrowing a friends at the moment so may not be on for quite some time, maybe santa will replace our laptops as we are not in the position at the moment..my husband returned to his office with a message from kim, that is just too sweet, i thank you all for worrying about me, but without pc, camera, omg, they took that too as it was conviently sitting with my ruby..anyway, i am incommunicado at the moment...please no worry,
I also possibly have to be taking a trip south within the coming weeks as my father is not well. LIfe has intervened full force on me at the moment and believe me 'reality bites'
I have rec'd emails from many, too many to respond to at once and hope this post will cover you all. i am touched to have so many care, and know that i am ok and will be back before you know it, bugging all of you

Deciding on a new drawing takes much time, not only does the reference photo have to be clear and large but it needs to be detailed and interesting, also have excellent contrast. If I am drawing something new (that I have yet to draw) I will look at many references and take in as much info as possible before starting, I want to see the subject from all sides.

I chose the potato to portray the human face due to it's many striking parallels. Not only is their skin porous like ours but they also come in different colors, shapes and sizes. Potato heads grow, sprout, age, then decay... but they refuse to go without a trace.

Color In Nature: Leafy & Weedy Seadragons

The sea dragon is a marine fish related to the seahorse, found around southern and western Australia. Their name comes from their appearance, with long leaf-like protrusions coming from all over the body. These protrusions are not used for propulsion; they serve only as camouflage.
There are two types of sea dragons, leafy and weedy. Leafies are generally brown to yellow in body color with spectacular olive-tinted appendages. Weedies have less flamboyant projections and are usually reddish in color with yellow spots.

At drawspace a lot of members are now experimenting with this medium and it seems to be a lot of fun. Because I have lay around a small set of watercolor pencils, a box of children's watercolor blocks and a set of 12 watercolor tubes I once bought in an outlet store, I finally decided to give them a chance. This first painting is done with the pencils taking the color of with a wet brush.

So I proudly present my first trial with the pencils. Not much of an artwork, but it is a start.

I am still learning to use my tablet and doodled with several media. Working with a simple 2B pendil and sketching on the screen works best so far, but it is quite difficult to control my hand-eye coordination.

This afternoon I made a black canvas and only worked with the erasers available in ArtWeaver. Not bad for a beginner?
